Why The Tower Really is the Perfect Card for 2020
Updated: Apr 21, 2021
The Tower, or The Falling Tower, is known as one of the cards to dread in a Tarot reading. Often considered the harbinger of destruction and doom, you may catch your breath when it reveals itself in your divination spread.

Sudden change, upheaval, chaos. The Tower is the 16th card in the Major Arcana of the Tarot deck. It's image depicts a tall spire perched on the top of a craggy mountain. Lightning violently strikes the tower and thus sets it ablaze. People leap from dizzily high windows, head first and arms outstretched in despair. It truly is a scene of turmoil and destruction.
And although this isn't something you'd want at your tea party, it does kinda describes 2020 fairly well.
This Tower looked like a solid working structure built to last. But because it had been constructed on shaky foundations, it only takes one bolt of lightning to bring it down. And here lies the lesson to be learned and why The Tower has an amazing message to convey.
The Tower represents change in the most profound and momentous sense. It's visually unnerving because most do not welcome foundational, groundbreaking change. We simply don't schedule that into our day. But change is a normal part of life that we have to embrace. It will happen even if we don't want it to. And with The Tower, this change needs to happen because everything was built on faulty foundations –on beliefs, values, and processes that are. not. working.
No more false assumptions, mistruths, and unstable approaches to doing things. The Tower urges us to abandon all that no longer serves us. This can be alarmingly confusing, especially when your core beliefs, all you previously knew, is challenged.
But remember it wasn't working.
Challenge yourself amidst the chaos to understand why it wasn't working. If you really have no choice, surrender to the destruction no matter how unwanted. The best and only way forward is to let the old fall away into rubble and ruin. Trust that life is happening for you and not just to you. Don't be swept away by destruction. Take hold of the momentum and shape it for good and what you truly want. These events are for you to grow wiser and more resilient as you develop a new perspective. There is joy to be embraced in this renewal. Break free from old ways. Don't hold yourself back. Move confidently forward as a force for change more suited for reality. Be genuine and expect it from others. Use this force as a means of transformation into awakening, revelation, and positive change.
The Tower isn't something to be feared. It should be embraced and welcomed for needed change. Build a new foundation that will be able to bear the fiercest of storms.
